01. Why Do Multicellular Organisms Need Tissues?
Division of labour: different groups of cells specialise for specific functions. This increases efficiency. Tissues are groups of cells with similar structure and function.
02. Meristematic Tissue
Found at growing tips (root, shoot apex) — called apical meristem. Lateral meristem (cambium) causes girth increase. Intercalary meristem found at leaf bases. Cells actively divide; no vacuoles; thin walls.
03. Permanent Plant Tissues
Simple tissues: parenchyma (storage, photosynthesis — loosely packed), collenchyma (support, flexibility — thickened corners), sclerenchyma (dead cells, rigid support — lignified). Complex: xylem (water transport), phloem (food transport).
04. Epithelial Tissue
Covers body surfaces and lines organs. Types: squamous (skin), cuboidal (kidney tubules), columnar (intestinal lining), ciliated (respiratory tract), glandular (secretion). Cells are tightly packed with no intercellular spaces.
05. Connective Tissue
Binds and supports other tissues. Types: loose (areolar — fills spaces), dense (tendons, ligaments), specialised (bone, cartilage, blood, adipose). Blood is a fluid connective tissue with plasma and blood cells.
06. Muscular & Nervous Tissue
Striated (skeletal) muscle: voluntary, attached to bones, striped. Smooth (visceral) muscle: involuntary, in gut walls. Cardiac muscle: involuntary, striated, only in heart. Nervous tissue: neurons + neuroglia; transmit impulses.

"Which tissue is called the fluid connective tissue?" — Blood. A classic 1-mark question.
The three types of muscle tissue are always compared in a table in 3-mark answers — examiners expect all three columns (type, location, control).
